"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Heckler Get's "Bitch Slapped" By The President

On Tuesday (May 25, 2010) President Obama was in the middle of a fundraising speech, when a heckler supporting the GLBT community rudely interrupted his speech.  The unknown person was calling for the President to move faster in repealing the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that bars openly gay and lesbian soldiers from military service.

Former US Presidents from the past would have ignored the out bust and kept with their speech.  President Obama stopped in the middle of his speech to deal with the rude heckler.  The President stated  "Good to see ya," and recalled a similar encounter in Los Angeles. "He really should buy a ticket to, if he wants to -- if he wants to demonstrate -- buy a ticket to a guy who doesn't support his point of view." Maybe the protester didn't read the newspapers, Obama continued, "because we are working with Congress as we speak to roll back 'don't ask, don't tell' ".

Why is our community heckling the people who are trying to help us? There is no presidency in the past, democratic or republican that a leader has stopped to address the concerns of the GLBT community in such an open and public manner. We should be giving our President praise for his effort and take his advise. We need to work harder to convince the politicians who do not support us and not heckling the one's who do.
