“FAG HAG CARD GAME NOW AVAILABLE!”

Evansville, IN, May 19, 2010…The second card game by SYCK Girl Games is now available! Fag Hag, our queer version of Old Maid is hot off the presses and ready to be played! Our GLBTQ community has been reclaiming derogatory terms to reduce their power against us. Shannon Y Edwards, co-founder (and the SY) of SYCK Girl Games says, “As lesbians, my partner and I embrace the word Dyke! And our gay male friends have no issue with calling one another as faggots. With that in mind, we thought it would be a lot of fun to play with the term ‘Fag Hag’ and some of the other stereotypes of the people that make up our community. We created fun, lovable caricatures of gay and lesbian occupational characters. Each one has his or her own personality and we love them!”

The game plays much like childhood favorite, Old Maid.  Christa K VanMeter, also co-founder (and the CK) of SYCK Girl Games says, “I remember playing old maid as a kid and was sometimes frustrated because the characters just weren’t like me. So when we created Sporty Sue and Coach Carla, I felt like I was honoring myself in some way.”

The game notes on the back that “Although the term ‘Fag Hag’ is normally associated with a straight woman who hangs out primarily with gay men, we decided that our Fag Hag loves her lesbians too!”  Therefore, half of the deck is comprised of gay male characters such as Fashionista Franz, Drag Queen Daphne, and Hairdresser Henry. While the other half of the deck is made up of female lesbian characters such as Lipstick Lesbian Lana and Mechanic Melissa. And of course, there is only one Fag Hag card who portrays our stereotypical straight ally with pro gay and pride paraphernalia.  In total there are 26 characters including the Fag Hag.

The game is for 2 to 8 players of any age. It’s not “adult” in nature and can be played by families who are open enough to explore queer stereotypes and issues of diversity in the form of a fun and lighthearted product to open the discussions.

Fag Hag is now for ready for sale nationwide to specialty book and retail stores, and will also be available at Pride events, to GLBTQ organizations for fundraisers, online at site www.syckgirlgames.com and other gay-friendly merchandise sites.
