XOXO HAYDEN: DEBUT NOVEL BY CHRIS CORKUM

It’s not easy growing up as a gay suburban teenager in the 80’s. It’s even harder when the crush you have on a major British pop star becomes reality.

Steven Carlisle and Hayden Whitfield come from two completely different worlds. Steven is a teenager growing up in Orange County, grappling with his sexuality and identity in high school. Hayden is a major English pop star, trying to find acceptance and validation through his music.

From the moment they meet, when Steven wins backstage passes to one of Hayden’s concerts, an undeniable connection is created between the two. A connection that lasts eighteen years, evolving from letters into a wonderful, often tumultuous relationship. XOXO Hayden is the story of a suburban teenager’s journey from adolescence into adulthood and the rise and fall of a mighty pop star and the indelible impression he leaves behind.

“Chris Corkum's rich description and emotional narrative pulls you into this page-turner as each moment re-defines the modern love story. Wonderfully written and engaging, the book is intimate, exciting, and bittersweet. A must read!”

“It's a first-love, coming-of-age story that is a literary page turner. If you have ever tried to sing along to a pop song, fallen in or out of love this book is for you. Sweet and funny, flirty and serious XOXO Hayden is not to be missed.”

“Music has always been a big part of my writing,” Chris tells of what inspired him to write XOXO Hayden . “It’s what moves and motivates me, often giving me ideas for stories and characters. I’ve always been a big Smiths/Morrissey fan and am particularly obsessed with the song, “Paint a Vulgar Picture.” No matter how many times, I listen to it, I’m always struck by the sadness of it. Of an unrequited, tortured love between a world famous pop star and a lovelorn suburban teenager. After listening to “Paint a Vulgar Picture” for the six hundredth time, it finally struck me that it would make a great story.”

Chris Corkum was born and raised in a small town in Massachusetts. He is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has taken post graduate classes at UCLA. He currently resides in Los Angeles and is at work on his second novel.
