Gay News Debuts on NYC TV

Under the Pink Carpet, an LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Transgender) themed news-magazine series, will begin broadcasting on WNYC-TV (Channel 25) in the New York City/Tri-State area starting February 3rd at 10 PM. UPC is the first LGBT themed series to air on Channel 25, underscoring the station’s commitment to diversity through programming that inclusively reflects New York City .

Under the Pink Carpet is a television news magazine focusing on who’s who and what’s hot in GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Transgender) arts, culture, and entertainment. The goal of this series is to entertain while concurrently educating viewers about GLBT contributions to the diversity, style, life, and pulse of New York City . Under the Pink Carpet provides exposure and support to openly gay and gay supportive artists, and all of those GLBT individuals and organizations that make up the multi-faceted fabric of the City. The program's aim is to foster diversity by enlightening “straight” viewers while concurrently creating a platform that makes gay people feel proud as a community through colorful, compelling and exciting on-location news reports and interviews. Under the Pink Carpet regularly takes the television audience front, center, and behind-the-scenes at the most exciting entertainment events, performances, and happenings in the city.

WNYC-TV operates under the auspices of the Office of the Mayor of New York City, and the acquisition of Under the Pink Carpet reflects the City’s commitment to the LGBT community.

The series is produced and directed by Tony Sawicki, who also serves as principal correspondent. Clover Welsh, as celebrated NYC drag personality Lady Clover Honey, also appears as a primary correspondent as well as serving as Associate Producer.

Other on-air personalities include comedienne Michele Balan of NBC-TV’s “Last Comic Standing,” writer/performer Robin Cloud, and reporter Stephanie Butler, with additional commentary by columnists from the online magazine DishMiss.com. - Jed Ryan, Brian Masefield, and Paul Case.

Music for the Under the Pink Carpet is provided by renowned LGBT recording artist Lovari. This includes new opening theme song – Work It Out (U’d Betta Do It), a song, written and recorded by Lovari, that brilliantly captures the vision of Gay nightlife and culture.
